Modeling the Rise in Acceptance of Same-Sex Relationships

Acceptance of same-sex relationships has risen dramatically over the past 10-15 years. How does this kind of societal change come about? Mathematical tools can be used to study this question by modeling a social network with a random graph and using a dynamic process to alter opinions and rewire social connections.

For an introduction to this modeling problem including some results, here is a presentation on the material.

Code for the model can be found on my GitHub:

My paper “Mathematics to Model Social Change: The Rise in Acceptance of Same-Sex Relationships” describes a student activity connecting to this work.
